City as a place of mind - Wilderness in public space
Vondrušková, Eliška ; Pfeiffer, Jan (advisor) ; Tsikoliya, Lenka (referee)
The thesis discusses the phenomenon of a city with a special focus on public space and its wilderness aspect. It examines the city as a place for non-human organisms to inhabit and discovers its specific habitat, which is populated by a vague terrain of various sizes. It traces the relationship between the city and nature, how this relationship has evolved throughout history, and how nature is brought into cities in the form of gardens and parks. It alludes to the theme of the second nature that surrounds cities. The main theme is urban wilderness, the uninvited nature of cities and its aspects. The aim of this thesis is to explore the topic of urban wilderness, its aspects and manifestations, which are then didactically transformed. This is preceded by the study of literature and fieldwork, which includes archiving and mapping of different spaces. The central city for this exploration is my birthplace and hometown of Prague which enables observation on an everyday basis (whether intended or unintended). The didactic part of the thesis focuses on the transformation of the topic into three wholly different art assignments, which offer the students three different perspectives. Each perspective is tied to their personal experience and two of the perspectives also directly include their presence in...
Vliv ročního období na růstovou intenzitu holoubat
FILIP, Jakub
The bachelor thesis deals with the growth ability of pigeons during all four seasons. In the literature review, the thesis starts with an introduction to the domestic pigeon (Columba livia var. domestica), its ancestor the rock pigeon (Columba livia Briss) and its domestication. The next part is an introduction to the sexual system of males and females and the associated reproduction. In the next chapter on nutrition, the thesis deals with the distribution of basic nutrients, the introduction of basic feeds and the nutrition of pigeons. The actual monitoring focuses on monitoring the growth of the pigeons and the associated weighing and ascertainment of growth from day 1 to day 30 of age. The pairs and their offspring were monitored to see if the intensity of growth varied during the seasons. At the end of the study, the monitoring evaluated the effect of seasons on the growth of the offspring.
Chov holubů plemene king (Columba livia f. domestica) a jatečná výtěžnost
ŘEZNÍČKOVÁ, Marcela
The literature review of the bachelor's thesis deals with the origin and domestication of the wild pigeon (Columba livia) and other representatives of the pigeon family living in the Czech Republic. Of this family, the domestic pigeon (Columba livia domestica), a domesticated form of the rock pigeon, its morphology, methods of breeding, nutrition and reproduction of this pigeon are the most described. The next chapter of the bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of the King breed, which describes the breed, care, breeding, reproduction and nutrition of this breed.
Základy užitkového chovu poštovních holubů a jejich etologie
PITZMOS, Jiří
The bachelor's thesis deals with the basics of commercial breeding of carrier pigeons and their ethology. The aim of this thesis is to determine the economic intensity of closed intensive breeding of medium size pigeons and to evaluate the factors influencing profitability. Part of the research is a breeding experiment in which utility and production parameters such as nesting frequency, hatchability, daily pigeon gains, yield in relation to food intake and ethological monitoring are monitored.
Feral Pigeon (Columba livia f. domestica) Census in Selected Sites of Prague
Bukačová, Kateřina ; Řezníček, Jan (advisor) ; Štěpán, Jiří (referee)
This thesis deals with the monitoring of numerous rate of domestic pigeon (Columba livia f. Domestica, hereinafter referred to as pigeon) in a given area and its spatial activity. The work includes incidence monitoring of individual pigeons depending on daytime and weather. The monitoring was carried out by observational method in the period from February to May 2015. The observations were related to individuals who occurred the monitored area (the buildings in Dukelských hrdinů street). Furthermore, the work compares the results from population census of Prague pigeon and the results from census of other European cities. It was further investigated whether the amount of pigeons in the area is affected by abiotic conditions (air temperature and weather). The result of the thesis should contribute to better knowledge of overall pigeon rate determining in the capital city of Prague. The collected data may help to gain a deeper knowledge of the entire population ecology living in this territory. They can also be beneficial, for example, in reducing of the pigeon numbers or serve in other investigations. Key words: pigeon, Domestic Pigeons (Columba livia f. domestica), abundance, monitoring, abiotic conditions, population
Telemetric monitoring of the feral pigeon ( Columba livia f. domestica) population at the Karlovo namesti square in Prague
Kanov, Štěpán ; Řezníček, Jan (advisor) ; Novák, Jindřich (referee)
"A Telemetric monitoring of the feral pigeon ( Columba livia f. domestica) population at the Karlovo náměstí square in Prague" This thesis deals with both the monitoring of numbers in the pigeon (Columba livia f. domestica, "the Pigeon") sites in question and also the spatial definition of the daily activities of individual specimens using a telemetric system. Previous researches gathered data on population density and food routes usually obtained by observation. Therefore we believe it's important to supplement this data with spatial movement maps of individuals that cannot be obtained by observation but the telemetry system allows us to do so in certain time period. The data obtained from GPS trackers will be processed into daily spatial activity maps of the specimen. These data will hopefully help us to gain insight into the life of not just specific individuals, but will also allow us to derive spatial activity of the entire population living in the locality in question. The results will be compared with the results from the previous pigeon count. This knowledge can be useful to population control, or serve in other studies. Keywords: pigeon, abundance, telemetry
Analysis of Trade with selected species of Coraciiformes, Musophagiformes, Columbiformes and Piciformes
ZÁHOROVÁ, Lucie
International trade in fauna and flora is curently considered as one of the greatest threats to populations of many wildlife species. According to available information, some species are declining mainly due to persecution by people for meat or for trade. Illegal trade is increasing as well. Its yearly turnover is estimated to be in the order of billions of US dollars. This diploma theses analyzes the international trade with selected bird species under the CITES Convention - Asian hornbills, African turacos, South American tukans and arassari, and pigeons and doves during the period from 1990 till 2015. Although the CITES Convention has proven to contribute to protecting biodiversity and protecting endangered species by monitoring and regulating the trade with them, it has its limitations and shortcomings. These are described in this diploma thesis on the example of some specific cases.

Cognitive functions of birds based on abstract visual stimuli
Štorchová, Zuzana ; Landová, Eva (advisor) ; Němec, Pavel (referee)
Spatial orientation of pigeons on a small scale was intensivelly studied in experiments using various types of arenas or mazes. In these experiments pigeons usually searched for food hidden in the goal area and they based their orientation on available landmarks. The development of new technologies allowed to test spatial cognition of pigeons also in virtual tasks, based exclusively on a schematic representation of an arena or maze on a touch screen. In experiments of this type pigeon marks the goal by pecking and it is rewarded by food from a feeder, located near the monitor. Study presented in this diploma thesis was based on combination of both types of spatial tasks. The information crucial for locating the goal was presented to pigeons on a computer screen in form of graphic stimuli, whereas the goal itself was formed by one of the 4 holes in corners of a transparent rectangular desk, standing in front of the monitor. Experiment with similar design was not yet published in the study of spatial cognition of pigeons. Two types of abstract graphic stimuli were tested. The first stimuli provided a spatial information about the location of a goal and had a form of small rectangular frame with a white spot in one of its corners. The frame represented the space of the response desk and the white spot...
